The Oware Society promotes the playing of the ancient mathematical board game. This game is traditionally played in West Afrika and the Caribbean. It is a game whose history stretches back thousands of years. It is an excellent activity to develop cognitive skills in children, enhance strategic thinking to those interested in honing this skill and enable social interaction between all people. The movement of the playing pieces itself is a therapeutic activity, maintaining or enhancing mobility for some whose mobility in their hands has been compromised.
This will be the 24th year the Oware Society will have been exhibiting, animating and conducting tournaments at the festival. This year will feature the 8th International Bao Tournament on Friday 24th, 24th International Awale Tournament on Saturday 25th and the 2nd European Togyzqumalaq Cup on Sunday 26th.
