The Oware Society promotes the playing of the ancient mathematical board game. This game is traditionally played in West Afrika and the Caribbean. It is a game whose history stretches back thousands of years. It is an excellent activity to develop cognitive skills in children, enhance strategic thinking to those interested in honing this skill and enable social interaction between all people. The movement of the playing pieces itself is a therapeutic activity, maintaining or enhancing mobility for some whose mobility in their hands has been compromised.
This is the 25th year that the Oware Society has exhibited, hosted and organized tournaments at the festival. This year, the 25th International Awale Tournament will take place on Saturday, March 1st and the 3rd Togyzqumalaq/Toguz Korgool European Cup on Sunday, March 2nd.
