The Oware Society promotes the ancient mathematical board game. This game is traditionally played in West Africa and the Caribbean. It is a game thousands of years old, with a history stretching back centuries. It is an excellent activity for developing children's cognitive abilities, improving strategic thinking for those who wish to hone this skill, and fostering social interaction. The movement of the game pieces itself is a therapeutic activity, maintaining or improving mobility for some people with impaired hand dexterity.
This is the 26th year that the Oware Society has exhibited, hosted, and organized tournaments at the festival. This year, the 26th Awale International Tournament will take place on Saturday 28th February. In addition an International Mangala Tournament will take place on Friday 27th February and an International Togyzqumalaq / Toguz Korgool tournament will take place on Sunday, 1st March .
